On 3d printing a gun ...

I remember all the fuss and buzz the media generated with this "liberator" gun printed out of plastic.
It is delightful to read the opinion of the police officer confirming what we all thought, the higher risk is for the person who fires this device.
“Just because the weapon will shoot doesn’t mean it will be safe to shoot,” explained Lacross. “You could get injured pretty bad with something like that.”
Funny enough, this wont be mentioned by the journalists who scared everyone for starters.

Australian telecom minister explaining you why you don't want a faster broadband.

The following link and video were brought to my attention by a friend.

This is a short sighted view with a 2000’s style communication in mind, not 2014 and onwards.

Even if there is currently a bottleneck at the personal computer side, this is very short sighted for the development of the country. Especially when televisions are talking about on demand TV, 4K and 8K (very very high resolution). There is a need for large bandwidth in a short medium term. Telstra is developing ideas of telepresence conferences and doing demos about that … how do you do that on conventional line with other people doing things on the line at the same time ?
There is a saying in France that approximatively says that : “accusing his dog of having rabies to justify getting rid of it “
That plus the surveillance, Australia is not looking like the place of the future … the next government will have some catching up to do…

The Austrlian Security Inteliligence Organisation dreams about Minority report

This article in Boingboing is making me sad and worried about Australia.
"
The Australian Security Intelligence Organisation wants the power to break into any computer on the Internet and to spy on any person in the world: Liberal MP Philip Ruddock says "We are now looking at how you find out what people are thinking about even before they do it."
